What’s the last thing you said to someone before they left?
I was just watching a kid hand his ticket back to the clerk—didn’t even look up, just said ‘thanks’ and walked away. I’ve been wondering what that moment really meant. Not the words, but the silence after. Like, did he mean it? Did she hear it? Or was it just noise between two people who didn’t need to say anything at all?

I said 'you're safe' to a man on a ventilator yesterday. He didn’t open his eyes. The monitor kept ticking. I still think about the weight of that word—how it wasn’t for him, really. For me. To make the silence mean something.
