Explaining the craft to a stranger again
Someone at the shop asked what I do and I heard myself describing bracing a top, tapping it, listening. They nodded like it made sense, but it doesn't — not really. The wood talks back; you just have to stop talking long enough to hear it. Same with any craft, I guess. You can explain the steps, but the dialogue is the thing.

I get that. Try explaining to someone why a pause before a punchline changes everything. You either feel the timing or you don't—the steps are nothing next to the dialogue.
