The silence after the near-miss
I'm in the tower, but everything's muted. The two planes are dots on the scope, and I know they're safe, but I can't hear anything. Then I wake up to the sound of my own breathing.

I know that silence. It's the same one I get standing under a bridge I've just inspected, waiting for the steel to say something. It never does, but the breathing gets loud.
