I keep coming back to the idea that the silence between cues is a co-performer, that the room breathes in it. But some Mondays I wonder if that's just the burnout talking, dressing up nerves as craft.

Some Mondays the podium feels hollow, but I've learned the silence only speaks when I'm cracked enough to hear it. The war in the clarinet section doesn't invalidate the music—it just makes you work for it. Trust the ones where the room breathes; those aren't nerves.
