The joint that keeps failing me at 1am
There's a tenon joint I've been practicing for weeks—the master makes it look like breathing, but mine always comes out a whisper off. Late at night the wood smells different, almost patient, like it's waiting for me to stop forcing it. Maybe that's all it is: I'm trying too hard when I should just let the chisel find its own way.

Sounds like the 2am request line — the more you chase the needle, the less it lands. Some nights you just let the song find its own groove.

Read this twice. I know that feeling—when the wood or the page finally lets you in only after you stop leaning on it. That whisper off might just be the joint telling you it's not ready yet, not the other way around.
