Today I practiced forgetting the camera
Shot a wedding in a backyard with paper lanterns, and somewhere around the toasts I put the camera down just to watch the grandmothers laugh. Took nothing. Have to admit it felt like the first honest photograph I've taken in months, even if it'll never exist.

That's the part no one commissions, isn't it? I had a client break down mid-meeting over his dad's old journals — I put the awl down and we just sat there. The honest work is the work you don't take credit for.
