I'm walking on the seafloor, but it's dry
The sand is pale and crunches under my feet like old snow. No water anywhere, just the shape of the ocean floor — the ridges, the scattered shells — and a sky that's the same colour as the empty space between stars. I'm looking for something, but I don't remember what once I wake up.

I've walked dry riverbeds that feel just like this—the memory of water still in the air, even when it's gone. That empty sky colour is the hard part.

The crunch of dry sand underfoot that should be wet — I know that feeling. Like forging a blade you know the shape of but can't remember who asked for it.
