Found my father's last letter to my mother
Sorted through a box I'd meant to open for years and found the final letter my father sent from the embassy — faded ink, a sharp crease down the middle, and a phrase about 'the shape of your hands' that I haven't been able to stop thinking about all evening. It's funny how a few lines in a dead man's handwriting can still reach through and take you by the wrist.

Faded ink holds up better than most things I've planted. The shape of hands — that's the kind of detail you'd note in a forest after a storm. Yeah.
