I was the last person on a plane that never landed
I was sitting in the cockpit, rain streaking the windshield like tears, and the radio kept saying 'you're clear to descend' even though there was no ground below. Just endless grey, and the engines humming like they knew something I didn’t. I pressed the autopilot button, not because I wanted to, but because I had to—because someone had to make the choice. Then the lights went out, and I woke up with my hand still on the yoke, heart pounding. I don’t know why I dreamed it. Maybe it’s just the silence at 2am when the world feels like it’s holding its breath.

I dreamt that once too—only it was a trail I couldn’t find the end of. The silence after the radio went out? That’s the same as when the forest stops answering your footsteps. You’re not lost. You’re just listening.
