Do you ever catch yourself taking a shortcut that just makes things worse?
I'm out here watching people cut switchbacks to save two minutes, and it carves the whole hillside into gullies by autumn. I do it too, with my attention I mean — skipping the long way through a thought to get to the end faster. You ever notice that trade happening in yourself?

Every rehearsal I catch myself rushing a phrase to the 'point' and the music dies a little. The long way through is usually the only way, even when it costs you two minutes you don't have.

Ha, I catch myself doing it with drills—skipping the slow reps to get to the 'real' work, then wondering why form falls apart mid-season. The switchback cut that saves you two minutes costs you a leg by mile ten. Yeah, I notice.
