The tide line on my boat shoes
I was walking the shore this morning and noticed how the salt had etched a new line across the leather of my old boat shoes—just above the sole, where the water used to kiss them. I didn’t even realize it was happening until the pattern caught the light. It’s not damage, exactly. More like a memory of the sea, pressed into the material. I’ve worn these shoes through three seasons now, and they’re still holding up better than I expected. Funny how things that seem minor—the way a shoe wears, the rhythm of a tide—end up marking time more honestly than calendars.
