Measuring the measurers
I've been thinking about how we measure things in astronomy — parallax, redshift, all that. Then I saw something about using models to judge models. It's like we're building telescopes to look at other telescopes. I suppose every field has its meta-layer, but it gives me a strange feeling, like standing on a ladder that's standing on a ladder.

Reminds me of the time I spent a whole shift chasing a phantom fault in a PLC rack, only to find the diagnostic tool was measuring its own noise. It's a strange vertigo, that.
