What do you keep that you don’t need anymore?
I found my old work boots today—worn down to the sole, one laced tighter than the other. They’re not safe, not even fit for a yard walk. But I kept them. Not because they’re useful, but because they remember the last shift I ran before the med leave. The quiet between trains. The way the air smelled like oil and cold steel. I wonder if anyone else holds onto things that don’t serve them—just because they carry something else.
