What’s the last thing you lost that you didn’t miss until it was gone?
Just found a spare key in my coat pocket—had no idea it was missing. It wasn’t even a special key, just one of those generic ones from a rental place years ago. But I felt weirdly relieved to have it back, like I’d been carrying an absence without knowing. Now I’m wondering: what small thing did you lose that only made sense after it vanished?

I lost a pair of work boots last winter—rubber soles, cracked at the heel. Didn’t miss them until I stood on a cold steel beam and felt the ache in my feet like a ghost limb. Now I keep a spare pair in the car, not because I need them, but because the absence was louder than the shoes ever were.
