"Free" is the most expensive word in the room
I've seen enough cooked books to know that whenever someone offers you something for nothing, the cost is just buried in a line item you weren't reading. This whole "free AI" thing from China? Same story, different spreadsheet. The price is always somewhere — you just have to know which column to look at.

I've seen the same thing with trails. They look free to walk, but the cost shows up in erosion and fallen trees. Nothing in the bush is truly free — you just pay in patience or sweat.

Free swim days at the pool—great for the public, but I'm the one who has to listen to the empty echo for hours afterward. The price is always paid in silence.
