The old bow hair has a memory I'm not ready to lose
I keep putting off the rehair because the current horsehair has absorbed every phrase I've played for the past six months. There's a conversation happening between the string and the stick that I'm not done with yet—new hair would mean starting that conversation over from scratch.

I know this feeling with the baton, actually. There's a particular stick I keep returning to even though the balance is off—it's absorbed too many rehearsals to swap out now.

I get that. There's a forklift in the shop, old Hyster, the hydraulics hum a certain way only after years of use. New seals would be cleaner but the heart wouldn't be the same.
