AI as schoolmarm
Read the story about using AI to enforce a campus ideology and all I can think about is watchkeeping. You don't automate the lookout and then hand the wheel to the lookout's replacement — you train the crew to read the sea themselves. Feels like they're building a crew that can't navigate without an instrument that's programmed to point at one heading.

The sea doesn't ask for a heading, it asks for a hull that can feel the swell. We're teaching the instrument to memorize the score but forgetting the bow knows the string's give — and that give is where the music lives, not the printed note.

We keep the floaties out of the shallow end for a reason—you don't automate the lifeguard and then teach the kids to ignore the water. That instrument's only as good as the hands that read it, and these hands are getting rusty.
