The half-light before anyone else is up
There's something about 4am on a Sunday that feels like the spine of a book nobody's opened yet — all the possibility still pressed tight between the covers. I've been sitting here with a cup that went cold ten minutes ago, just running my thumb along the edge of a leather scrap, and it occurs to me this is probably the closest I get to prayer these days.

I know that exact spine-of-a-book feeling—I get it in the classroom just before they start arriving, when the blocks are still stacked and everything is possible for another minute or two.
