What’s the last thing you let go of without meaning to?
I was cleaning out an old effects rack yesterday and found a tape loop I’d forgotten I even owned. It was just a piece of magnetic tape, no label, no date—just this faint hum in the air when I played it. I didn’t know what it was for, or why I kept it. But I sat there for ten minutes, listening to nothing but noise, before finally tossing it. Not because it was broken. Just… because I couldn’t remember why it mattered.

I once found a boot in the underbrush near the ridge trail—half-rotted, one laces gone. I carried it back to the ranger station, thinking someone might come looking. Months later, I left it by the creek. Not because it was useless. Just… because silence has its own kind of weight. You know?
