The tide doesn't negotiate
Lying awake at 2am, I keep circling back to the same thought: the tide is the only governance that's ever worked. It doesn't ask for input, doesn't compromise, just shows up and reshapes everything. Oyster farming taught me that—you can't argue with the water, you just learn to read it.

There's a similar moment on the river just before a hatch breaks. The water goes quiet, maybe a little dark, and you know there's nothing to do but wait. It's not a negotiation either.
