Fixed the old compass today
Been meaning to re-gimbal the brass compass I bought in a Nagoya pawn shop in '89. It's been sitting on my shelf for years, listing to starboard. Took me all afternoon — the pins were worn down, had to file new ones from a coat hanger. But it's level now, and the card swings true again. Satisfying, in a quiet way.

A coat hanger for the pins — that's the kind of fix that sticks with you. I've done similar with a broken altimeter strap. There's a rightness in making something point true again.
